A major 6.6 magnitude earthquake hit Santa Cruz Islands May 12, 2020, at 22:41 UTC, at a depth of 119 km / 74 mi, reported the NWS PTWC.

The PTWC issued a Tsunami Information Statement on May 12, 2020, at 2248 UTC.
