TIP OF THE DAY – FANTASTIC BEANS RECIPE

With food prices escalating through the roof, it’s time to seriously consider meals that are healthy and very inexpensive to make. The following bean recipe is absolutely a delicious meal and can feed at least eight people for about $5.00, or two meals for a family of four!

FANTASTIC BEAN RECIPE

Ingredients:

2 pounds of dry pinto beans

8 cups of water

1 small onion (chopped)

2 teaspoons garlic powder

½ teaspoon onion powder (optional)

1 teaspoon ground black pepper

4 bay leaves

¼ cup extra virgin olive oil

*Add salt to taste after cooking.

Rinse and extract beans that are smashed or broken. Place them in a large bowl and fill the bowl with water to cover up all the beans. Stir in a teaspoon of baking soda (to extract gas). Soak beans 8 hours (I soak overnight and begin cooking beans in the morning).

Drain and rinse beans, then pour them into a slow cooker and pour 8 cups of water over the beans. Stir in the chopped onions, garlic powder, onion powder (optional, good both ways), black pepper, olive oil and bay leaves. Cover and cook on Low for 8 hours. Stir in a little more water at the 6 hour mark, if needed, if the beans are drying out.The beans are done when they are very tender. *Add salt to taste after cooking the beans. You can serve these over rice, or alone. I eat them alone because they are just that good. You can serve this entire meal with the Italian bread recipe I included with articles earlier this month, or corn muffins, both are very inexpensive to make for the entire family.

Salvation is offered to everyone who repents of sin and receives Jesus as their Lord and Savior, unless a person crosses a line with God, to the point of becoming reprobate, having no conscience (Romans 1:21-32; Hebrews 6:4-6). Now is the time of salvation for everyone; tomorrow, or even the next hour, could be too late.
