The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), specifically in the North Kivu and Ituri provinces, has suffered a severe outbreak of Ebola, becoming the second deadliest epidemic recorded, next to the 2013-16 epidemic that killed more than 11,000 people in West Africa.
Ebola kills more than half of those who become infected with the disease. Symptoms include hemorrhagic fever, bleeding, severe vomiting and diarrhea.
Other ongoing outbreaks/epidemics/pandemics include, but are by far not limited to, the following:
- HIV/AIDS: more than 36 million have died worldwide (and about 35.3 million are living with HIV/AIDS) – 11-2018 data – Wikipedia

- Measles: 73,000 reported deaths in 2014 (about 20 million per year are infected) – Wikipedia
- Flu: up to 646,000 die globally per year; 80,000 people died in the US in 2017 – CDC

Jesus said concerning the last days preceding His return,
“Nation shall rise against nation, kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines, plagues and earthquakes; but all these things are the beginning of throes (pain, agony). Then they will deliver you up to affliction and will kill you, and you will be hated by all the nations for My name (My name’s sake)” Matthew 34:7-9 (Interlinear Bible – Greek – emphasis added)
The “plagues” referred to in the passage of scripture above include all sorts of illnesses, including sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) that afflict people because of sexual immorality. The STD statistics are staggering in the United States, because of the explicit X-rated sex “education” given to very young children in public schools, including step-by-step instructions on anal sex given to 10-year-olds!

Jesus said,
“Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot, they ate, drank, bought, sold, planted and builded, but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom (he and his family were rescued by two angels), it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of Man (Jesus) is revealed (when He returns)” Luke 17:28-30 (emphasis added)
What was happening in the “days of Lot?” In Lot’s day, the inhabitants of Sodom and surrounding cities were overtaken with sodomy (homosexuality), and before God rained fire and brimstone down on Sodom and the surrounding cities for their sins, He sent two angels to Sodom to rescue righteous Lot and his family from the destruction.
So, what was Jesus saying here? He was saying that when such sins become prevalent in the world, as they were in the days of Lot, God will rescue His saints from the earth (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18), then He is going to pour out seven years of tribulation such as the world has never seen! (Matthew 24:21) We are living in the “days of Lot” right now!
Salvation is offered to everyone who repents of sin and receives Jesus as their Lord and Savior, unless a person crosses a line with God, to the point of becoming reprobate, having no conscience (Romans 1:21-32; Hebrews 6:4-6). Now is the time of salvation for everyone; tomorrow, or even the next hour, could be too late.
