STUDY SHOWS SEVERE WATER SHORTAGES IN TWO-THIRDS OF THE WORLD

According to Arjen Hoekstra, a water management professor at the University of Twente in the Netherlands, about two-thirds of the world’s population face severe water shortages at least one month during the year. Hoekstra’s study was published Friday in Science Advances.

The article reveals that 500 million people suffer severe water shortages all year round. Among those half-a-billion people, 180 million live in India, 73 million in Pakistan, 27 million in Egypt, 20 million in Saudi Arabia, 18 million in Yemen, and 20 million in Mexico.
