A major 6.2 magnitude earthquake hit 120 km WNW of L’Esperance Rock, New Zealand, on February 1, 2016, at 19:00:45 UTC, at a depth of 382.4 km (237.6 mi), reported USGS.

559 major to great (6.0+) earthquakes hit various places over the last 1,073 days. Among these were 70 7.0+ and 6 8.0+ magnitude quakes. (Sources: CSEM-EMSC, Geoscience Australia, USGS, Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, China Earthquake Networks Center, GEOFON).
